Peter Angelos, 94, Longtime Owner of the Orioles, Passes Away.

The Baltimore Orioles announced Saturday that longtime owner Peter Angelos died at 94.

The Angelos family thanks doctors, nurses, and caregivers who helped Mr. Angelos in his final years for understanding as they honor that request. Instead of flowers, you can send donations to charity. In 1993, Angelos led a group of investors to purchase his hometown Orioles for a then-record $173 million from Eli Jacobs, a successful trial attorney. As a proud native of Baltimore, Peter Angelos deeply appreciated owning the Baltimore Orioles, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Peter's lifetime of philanthropy greatly benefited numerous worthy causes throughout his hometown. He championed the Orioles' historic 1999 series with the Cuban National Team. Peter ably served the game on our Labor Committee, and I will always remember his personal support when I was first elected to this role in his home city in 2014. "I extend my condolences to Peter's wife, Georgia, their sons, John and Louis, and the entire Angelos family."

The Angelos family agreed to pay a reported $1.725 billion to a group led by billionaire David Rubenstein, which included Orioles icon Cal Ripken Jr., to acquire a controlling interest in the franchise in January.

The Orioles, who have not won the World Series since 1983, are coming off their most successful season (101-61) under Angelos' leadership. During that time, Baltimore qualified for the playoffs six times (1996, 1997, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2023).
